Default AUDIO CD-Rs/CD-RWS????

EDIT: Sorry Moderators, for inadvertently not posting this in the Music Room.

Hey Negros,

Anyone have any clue as to where I can purchase a so-called "Audio" CD-R and/or CD-RW?

Apparently, this Vinyl to CD-R/RW recorder I got (which btw, I intend to return back, right after my purpose(s) has been dealt with! LOL! :-S) will only dub Analog (i.e.: 12" Vinyl) to Digital (i.e.: CD-R,CD-RW) but not on a traditional computer CD-R/CD-RW which you get @ Future Shop, Best Buy, etc. That said, it is exceptionally imperative that I have these specific types if I am to accomplish my objective of cataloguing my Vinyl collection on to digital MP3/WAV/MIDI formats, so that I can have the amenity of enjoying my cherished musical library on my iPhone device.

Any insightful feedback to the aforementioned inquiry would greatly be appreciated. Holla back with da 411! :--)

Thanks so much.... and Happy Holidays + Season's Greetings, folks!

PS: I’m seeking a physical retail sales outlet within the proximity of the GTA vicinity, so, don’t be smug and refer me to an on-line portal. :-S

Thanks for the suggestions as to retails outlets! As I stated, Future Shop, Best Buy, Source by Circuit City, etc. seems to only have the computer CD-Rs, CD-RWs,DVD-RWs, etc. which I have plenty off anyways, as opposed to the specific Audio ones.

I've got a digital input jack on my computer, so I just record from the Technics > mixer (flat eq's) > computer. Once it's on the computer, I can normalize everything, do some cleanup (remove the "Rice Krispies"), and adjust the bands. It takes time, but it's the best way to assure that the sound is as good as vinyl to digital can get. From this point, I can archive the RAW files to CDR or transcode to mp3/4, etc. I would suggest you look into LAME <> as an encoding engine if you are going to be compressing these files to mp3. It's one of the better encoders out there.

With regards to media, it's a really tricky subject. Media can get very expensive, but if you aren't playing back data on high-end equipment, the additional cost to you is probably not worthwhile. Readability and burnability (is that even a word?) of disc can vary depending on media as well as hardware, so certain media combinations can influence sound quality in more rewarding ways even if the 1 and 0s are copied in the same way among all formats. I think what it comes down to is just trying out different type of media and sticking to a brand that works for you on a consistent basis. Either way, if you're duplicating vinyl, I would suggest archiving the files on a backup drive as well just in case something goes wrong over time—just lost a 200GB laptop drive last week with no warning signs.

I wish I could be of more assistance here, but minuscule audio discrepancies—especially when the source is VINYL—is probably not going to be a big deal at the end of the day.

You could try searching Google for audio CDR reviews, but major brands are probably your best bet (aka "Gold" formats). As you will soon notice from searches, there doesn't seem to be leading manufacturer.
